GIVEAWAY: Enter To Win Nozomi Necklace That Supports Tsunami Relief – 6 Winners!

After the tsunami crashed through Japan on March 11th, 2011, there was brokenness everywhere, and the lives of many were shattered.  Right after the tsunami, various women from the Be One team – a house church network in Osaka, Japan – traveled to Ishinomaki, Japan to help bring relief supplies and to offer their support anywhere that they could make a difference.  The Nozomi Project began in July 2012 with just a few women.  “Nozomi” representing “HOPE” in Japanese would be a project that would enable Ishinomaki women to rebuild their devastated lives through the sales of jewelry they made from broken pottery that was strewn all over the place after the tsunami. The product line called “Shards of Hope” is compiled of unique, one-of-a-kind pieces each named after one of the Nozomi women.

GIVEAWAY: We ask that you please enter this charitable giveaway to support the Nozomi women by raising awareness for their cause.  Please share this giveaway with your friends and family so that the women in Ishinomaki, Japan can rebuild their lives after the devastation caused by the 2011 tsunami.  We are giving away 6 different necklaces from the Nozomi Project “Shards of Hope” product line.  There will be 6 winners!

Editor’s Note: 100% of the proceeds from sales of Shards of Hope go to the Nozomi women and the continuation of the Nozomi Project (NP).  Nozomi is expanding to include re-purposed items made from kimono fabric, notecards drawn by local women, and more.

A Story About A Nozomi Woman – From Sue Takamoto, Leader Of The Nozomi Project

“One of the women who came in September for the first time had told me that she probably couldn’t make anything with her hands because she was still so severely depressed since the tsunami.  Her three year old son had died in the tsunami and she has been suffering from severe depression and panic attacks. She came the first day, and right away started cutting and grinding pottery.   She said after the first day, ‘I didn’t realize how much I could heal from creating something with my hands.’  Yuri has become our best earring designer!   For each of these women, the Nozomi Project represents hope in capital letters:  they are receiving good income that is very difficult for everyone, especially women to find in this community;  they are creating beautiful jewelry in the midst of a supportive community;  they are finding healing and dignity.” – Sue Takamoto

I had the privilege to volunteer in Ishinomaki, and personally meet the young women who are involved in Nozomi project. The stories are horrifying, but with the help of this project, they are able to slowly heal their wounds. Many of them have lost children, siblings, parents or friends. This project is a brilliant way of keeping the memory of this life changing day, but at the same time- to move on! I am a proud owner of four necklaces.
